BLACK HISTORY MONTH OCTOBER 2010 Black History Month (BHM) is held every October in Britain and every February in America and Canada. The aim is to promote knowledge of Black history, culture and heritage. Black History Month originated in America in 1926 by historian Carter Godwin Woodson. The month of February was selected because the abolitionist and former slave Fredrick Douglas and former President Abraham Lincoln, were both born during February. |
